Incredible Skydives Above Madagascar – A Dream Beyond Imagination
April 2025
Where do I even begin?
Some adventures are so extraordinary that even weeks later, they still feel unreal. When I close my eyes, I am instantly transported back to Madagascar, reliving one breathtaking moment after another. Sometimes I still ask myself: Did this truly happen? Was I really there?
Our basecamp was the wonderful Nosy Be Hotel, a tropical paradise with a relaxed atmosphere, friendly staff, and stunning views. Twice, we even landed directly on the beach in front of this hotel. How many people can say they have landed on this tropical beach after jumping from an airplane?
But that was only the beginning.
The Skydives of a Lifetime
The jump over Iranja Island was simply beyond words. First, we flew 20 kilometres out over the Indian Ocean. Then, from 4,000 meters, I stepped out of the aircraft and saw already in freefall that this is undoubtedly the most beautiful beach I have ever seen in my life.
Two islands connected by an endless strip of white sand, surrounded by crystal-clear turquoise water. It looked more like a desktop wallpaper than a real place.
For a moment I genuinely wondered: Am I dreaming?
Even now, it feels impossible that I was lucky enough to experience this.
After a delicious late breakfast, complete with superb guacamole, and a lovely lunch, we enjoyed a two-hour boat ride back to Nosy Be, still trying to process what we had just witnessed.
Stepping Back in Time
The skydive above Nosy Mitsio Island was equally unforgettable.
The islands surrounding Nosy Be are astonishingly beautiful, but what struck me most was how differently people live there. Many families live without running water, electricity, toilets, or mobile phones. Houses are built from leaves, and life is incredibly simple.
Landing with my canopy on these remote islands felt like looking into another world.
The jump itself was spectacular, followed by another magical two-hour boat journey across the ocean.
Hundreds of Smiling Faces
One of the most emotional moments of the trip came during a demonstration skydive for a local school.
Hundreds of enthusiastic children were waiting below.
Finding the landing area from the airplane was not exactly easy—in fact, I could barely see it at all! Fortunately, we had inspected the landing field the day before. Once safely on the ground, I was immediately surrounded by hundreds smiling faces.
What happened next is something I will never forget.
The excitement, the laughter, the pure joy of the children was overwhelming. My Insta360 X4 mounted on a three-meter selfie stick captured incredible footage, but no camera can truly capture my feeling.
One thing became very clear:
Smile at kids, and they will smile right back.
One More Adventure
As if all this wasn’t enough, we also made a skydive at Coco Beach on the mainland near Lemur Island. Together with my friend Edwin Lebrun and our new Norwegian friends Ingelill, Monika, Cora, and Tommy, we completed another unforgettable jump before visiting the famous lemurs.
What an incredible way to finish an extraordinary week.
Looking back, I feel unbelievably fortunate. How many people get the opportunity to skydive above some of the world’s most remote tropical islands, land on pristine beaches, and share these experiences with wonderful friends from all over the World?
Sometimes life gives you moments that seem too incredible to be true.
Skydiving above Madagascar was one of those moments.
